Give Directly From Your IRA
Planning Your Required Minimum Distribution (RMD)?
A Qualified Charitable Distribution will allow you to direct some or all of an eligible RMD toward supporting KCA. A donation will help satisfy your RMD, and that portion will not be reported as income, reducing taxable income associated with the distribution.
To make a QCD, contact your investment advisor or IRA custodian to initiate the process and have your charitable contribution sent directly to KCA.
📊 See how a QCD can lower your taxable income in our sample tax scenario below:
| Sample Tax Scenario* | Option 1: Take RMD income and donate cash | Option 2: Tax-smart approach – make a QCD & satisfy RMD |
|---|---|---|
| Adjusted gross income | $122,683 | $80,000 |
| Charitable gift | $42,683 (cash) | $42,683 (QCD) |
| Itemized or standard deduction | $42,683 itemized deduction | $17,000 standard deduction |
| Estimated Federal taxable income | $80,000 | $63,000 |
*In this scenario, using a QCD lowers taxable income by $17,000.
